I'l. xvi. Slabs witli r<strong>el</strong>iefs of animals, from<br />
scenes of the king hunting in the desert and in<br />
the marshes. <strong>The</strong>se were found in the Southern<br />
Court, into which they must have fallen from<br />
the pl<strong>at</strong>form abo\e. <strong>The</strong>y therefore probably<br />
b<strong>el</strong>ong to the south wall of the ambul<strong>at</strong>ory<br />
surrounding the pyramid.<br />
PI. xvii. Portraits of the queens and prin-<br />
cesses, Avith their <strong>at</strong>tendants. From the shrines<br />
or tomb-chap<strong>el</strong>s. (J), the most perfect fragment<br />
found, is noAv in the Cairo ^luseum. An<br />
<strong>at</strong>tendant offers to the pi-incess Sadhe a cup of<br />
beer, (ij, h), from the shrine of Kauit, show<br />
the fiice of the officer Apait.<br />
<strong>The</strong>se various fragments, tliough very in-<br />
complete, give a very good idea of the art of<br />
the Xlth Dynasty. <strong>The</strong>y generally have<br />
preserved their brilliant coloui's. <strong>The</strong> photo-<br />
graphs on this pl<strong>at</strong>e Avere taken by Mr. Ayrton.<br />
PI. xviii. Fragments of chap<strong>el</strong>s : {n, l>, r)<br />
are still in situ, forming part of the chap<strong>el</strong>s of<br />
the queens Aashait and Sadhe. <strong>The</strong> small<br />
fragment b<strong>el</strong>oAv joins (c), giving the head of the<br />
coAv and hind quarters of the calf, Avhom she<br />
is licking. <strong>The</strong> man standing in the upper<br />
register of (-) is named Antef: the name is<br />
inscribed in minute green hieroglyphs <strong>at</strong> his<br />
side. B<strong>el</strong>oAv are fragments, mostly of cornices,<br />
inscribed Avith the names of the princesses<br />
Sadhe and Kauit, and the record of the oflfei'-<br />

able is one Avith the name of a hitherto unknown<br />
minor deity, U<strong>at</strong>-Pa, " who cometh<br />

peared, Avere probably of metal. It is of<br />
XVIIIth Dynasty Avork, and the figure to Avhich<br />
it b<strong>el</strong>onged Avas i^robably preserved in the<br />
H<strong>at</strong>hor-shrine in the Gre<strong>at</strong> Temple of Queen<br />
H<strong>at</strong>shepsu, from Avhich it f<strong>el</strong>l on to the Xlth<br />
