Welcome to the 11th Tbilisi International Film Festival!
The Festival will show you best productions of the recent years within the limits of its traditional sections Forum of European
Cinema, Horizons, Made in Germany. As we have re-established international competition the audience will be able
to see 10 debuts of European directors familiarizing themselves with the cinema of future.
Famous Georgian artist Tamar Kvesitadze made for the updated competition a new Prometheus prize to be awarded to
the winners of two nominations. Besides, the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia will award the human rights and peace
prize; the Foundation for Arts and Intercultural Dialogue will award Parajanov Prize for the innovative poetic vision.
Program of this year is the most distinguished as compared with the previous years. Along with traditional sections it
off ers in British Showcase and French Collection the fi lms of such modern celebrities as Stephen Frears, Ken Loach, Jean-
Luc Godard, Otar Iosseliani, Michael Haneke, Francis Ford Coppola, Bahman Ghobadi, Bruno Dumont.
In a word there are many novelties, the Festival tends to gradually expand its audience by its endeavours to off er diverse
program to the fi lm-goers of diff erent categories. But the major principle is unchanged – we try to present contemporary
independent cinema, which clearly outlines current trends and responds to the most acute issues and topics of the community.
This Festival remains the largest scale event in the fi eld of cinema gathering hundreds of fi lm fans, professionals and
journalists at the end of each calendar year.
It is our desire to fi rmly establish Tbilisi International Film Festival on the map of the World Cinema so that it transforms
into real forum providing incentive to the directors, producers, scriptwriters to make and develop joint projects.
