human bitterness, pain and suffering. The
minimal stage sets were an additional element
to reinforce the mood of need, starvation and
THANOS MIKROUTSIKOS - MILVA
Thanos Mikroutsikos, former Minister of Culture
and Chairman and Director-General of
the Greek Festival (Athens and Epidaurous)
is a well-known composer. He has composed
operas, symphonies, chamber music, scores
for the cinema and theatre, electronic music
but also a lot of songs. His concert presented
at the Kypria Festival was not only an opportunity
to hear the much-loved songs of his
repertoire but also to introduce to the
Cypriot audience the great diva of the Italian
song, Milva.
The concert was divided into two parts one
half of which was dedicated to Christos Thiveos,
the passionate young singer/songwriter who
actually studied philosophy under Umberto
Eco. The second part opened with Milva whose
stunning appearance on stage made it hard to
believe that her career has spanned an incred-
ible 46 years: her vibrant, robust voice justifies
the numerous awards she has reaped.
Mikroutsikos’ flawless accompaniment revealed
real piano virtuoso. Every song in the programme
touched the audience’s hearts and
their prolonged standing ovation was a spontaneous
token of their appreciation.
