training you attended, the name of the conference at which you gave a
paper, the details of some group to whom you gave a talk, the exact date
that something happened, or even the fact that once upon a time you got
Finding suitable referees
The problem in the early stages is to find a range of referees, rather than just
people who know you as an undergraduate. Probably the ideal referees for a
first post would be your university tutor (or someone else in the psychology
department with whom you have had a particular working relationship, such as
your project/dissertation supervisor) and someone from a work context, either a
placement during your course or a relevant post you have held pre-university or
during the vacation. The more recent the contact you have had with them the
better, assuming that you have matured and developed during your degree!
There is more help available on this on our website.
