Europe
The European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA) (www.efpa.be)
provides a forum for European co-operation in academic training, psychological
practice and research. There are 32 member associations representing about
180,000 psychologists. EFPA is concerned with promoting and improving
psychology as a profession and as an academic discipline, and the member
associations include practitioners as well as academic psychologists.
EuroPsy
This was established in 2005 in response to Directive 2005/36/EC following the
Bologna declaration to promote European mobility, and denotes a European
standard equivalent to BPS Chartered Psychologist status (i.e. three-year undergraduate
degree, two-year postgraduate degree and one-year supervised practice).
It enables individual psychologists to be recognized across the 32 national
member associations in the European Federation of Psychologist Associations
and is currently being trialled in six countries including the UK. Applicants
can download the form from www.bps.org.uk/europsy and more information
is available at www.efpa.be. Successful registration confers the title Registered
EuroPsy Psychologist.
There is also currently a mutual recognition agreement between the UK and
Republic of Ireland, and undergraduate degrees are recognized as the basis for
postgraduate training in either country.
organization’ with 148,000 members and 53 professional divisions, and is
‘PsyCareers’, which covers careers both within psychology and without, and a
large range of other information.
2 The Association for Psychological Science (APS) (www.psychological
science.org) was founded in 1988 and has about 18,000 members. Its mission is
