Patricia Bowles > Executive Vice-President, Communications<br />
“The role of my Communications team is to make sure the <strong>TELUS</strong> story is heard and understood by<br />
all our stakeholders – team members, media, customers, government and others. We will focus on<br />
translating our strategic intent and achievements for our key audiences and we will lead the charge<br />
in establishing a single brand identity for <strong>TELUS</strong>.”<br />
Patricia has extensive experience in public relations, public affairs, marketing and government relations.<br />
She has worked in book publishing and advertising and held senior corporate communications and<br />
marketing positions with two of Canada’s largest companies. Before joining <strong>TELUS</strong> in 2000, she was<br />
Senior Counsel and General Manager for the British Columbia division of a major international consulting<br />
firm. In her current position, she is responsible for all external and internal communications for the<br />
Company, <strong>TELUS</strong>’ brand and reputation, event marketing and sponsorships, and community affairs.<br />
Robert G. McFarlane > Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer<br />
“The Finance team is focused on contributing to shareholder value by guaranteeing the financial<br />
health of <strong>TELUS</strong>. Our mandate is to provide responsible and responsive value-added financial services<br />
for internal <strong>TELUS</strong> clients and for external investors. Our priorities for 2001 include restructuring and<br />
refinancing several billions of dollars of debt; implementing measures to save hundreds of millions of<br />
dollars in tax; expanding the profile of <strong>TELUS</strong> among investors in Canada and in the United States;<br />
and effectively establishing the new centralized finance operations group.”<br />
Most recently, Robert served as Executive Vice-President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary<br />
Treasurer of Clearnet and as a member of its Board of Directors. He led the development of Clearnet’s<br />
finance, accounting and risk management teams from a near start-up state, including the raising of<br />
over $3.2 billion in capital from 15 financings. Following the acquisition of Clearnet, Bob was named<br />
to his current position. He is responsible for the development of corporate financial strategies, plans<br />
and policies as well as the delivery of these services. In addition, he oversees treasury operations,<br />
investor relations, finance operations, financial <strong>report</strong>ing and control and risk management.<br />
Jim Peters > Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development and General Counsel<br />
“My team will position <strong>TELUS</strong> as a leading national player by driving focused enterprise strategies and<br />
aggressively pursuing mergers, acquisitions, partnerships and divestitures to build national capabilities<br />
across data/IP, voice and wireless.”<br />
Jim joined BC TEL in 1988, first as a member of the legal department and then as Director of Mergers<br />
and Acquisitions. He was a key member of the team that directed the merger of BC TELECOM and<br />
<strong>TELUS</strong>. Following the merger, he was named Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development and<br />
Emerging Businesses. Later, he took on responsibility for the chief general counsel portfolio. Most<br />
recently, he led the <strong>TELUS</strong> team involved in the acquisition of Clearnet. In his current position, he is<br />
responsible for business development, regulatory and government affairs, strategy development, corporate<br />
secretary, legal affairs, as well as consumer and employee privacy matters.<br />
Judy Shuttleworth > Executive Vice-President, Human Resources<br />
“I am the employees’ strategic partner, change agent and champion. The Human Resources team will<br />
lead cultural change, energizing Team <strong>TELUS</strong>. It is our people, values and culture that are going to<br />
make the difference in the marketplace. My mandate is to make <strong>TELUS</strong> the envy of the world in terms<br />
of its values, the quality of its people and the culture of the enterprise.”<br />
Judy has held various senior management positions at <strong>TELUS</strong> including Vice-President, Labour Relations<br />
and Director, Employee Relations. Judy drives the national “people” strategy, aligning human resources<br />
and business strategy. She is responsible for providing human resources programs and practices that<br />
focus on strategy execution, employee commitment and capability, organization design, performance<br />
alignment and change leadership. She is also responsible for labour relations, recruitment, employee<br />
relations, employee reward and development programs, compensation and benefits.<br />
