time and the second xx.xx is the total CPU time in<br />

seconds used since the last ready or error message.<br />

REQUEST. Input acceptable only to an environment which is<br />

unique to a specific CMS command.<br />

RESPONSE. Any nonerror message typed out by the system at<br />

the terminal.<br />

SPOOLING AREA. Any disk area used by the Control <strong>Program</strong> to<br />

temporarily hold input from the offline card reader or<br />

output to the offline card punch or printer.<br />

SYSTEM DISK. A disk area containing the CMS nucleus" of<br />

which each user receives his own copy, and the<br />

disk-resident portion of CMS, which is shared by all<br />

users.<br />

SYSTEM FILE. Any file residing on the system disk as<br />

opposed to the user·s permanent or temporary disks.<br />

TEMPORARY DISK. A disk area allocated to the user at the<br />

time he logs into the Control <strong>Program</strong>, on which stored<br />

files are retained only for the duration of the<br />

terminal session.<br />
