The Commander-in-Chief descends from the throne, passes Inside<br />

the triangle to the altar, lights the incense, and says<br />

Brethren of the Lodge of Perfection will now kneel on tht<br />

right knee and repeat after me the vow of<br />

FEALTY AND ALLEGIANCE.<br />

In the presence of our Heavenly Father, by this holy altar<br />

erected to Him, by the incense which now ascends therefrom, in<br />

token of our gratitude and adoration, and calling on these Illus-<br />

trious Brethren now present, as witnesses, I do solemnly vow to<br />

be faithful and loyal to the Ancient and Accepted Scottish rite<br />

to ever maintain its honor and independence, support its regu<br />

lar and constituted authorities, and zealously endeavor to propa<br />

gate its principles, enlarge its borders, and increase its influence.<br />

That I will be loyal and faithful to my country and its government<br />

and laws, and to the great cause of oppressed and suffering<br />

humanity.<br />

That I will labor to disseminate truth and knowledge among<br />

men, to eradicate error and dispel ignorance, and to make Masonry<br />

efficient to enlighten and enfranchise men.<br />

That I will be loyal and faithful, and bear true fealty and alle-<br />

giance to the Supreme Council and Sovereign Chiefs of Exalted<br />

Masonry.<br />

That I will hold no Masouic communication whatever, aa a<br />

Mason of said rite, witli any Masonic body or Mason pretending<br />

to be subject to any Masonic authority of said rite in said jurisdic-<br />

tion, other than said Supreme Council, of which the Illustrioua<br />

Brother is now the Sovereign Grand Commander. So<br />

help me God<br />

Second Lieut. * * * In the name of our Father which art<br />

in Heaven, I consecrate this Lodge of Perfection to peace, harmony,<br />

and union ; may it ever pour oil on the waters of strife,<br />

and persuade men no longer to hate their brethren 1<br />

First Lieut. * * * In the name of the order of Freemasonry<br />

and of our Ancient and Accepted Scottish rite, I consecrate this<br />

Lodge of Perfection to charity, beneficence, and good deeds;<br />

may it ever labor to assist the needy, console the Buffering, and<br />

cheer with the wine of contentment the disconsolate.<br />
