The number five in this degree, my brother, has
many allusions, some of which have already been ex-
plained to you ; it is also to remind us of the five
point« of fellowship : that we are to go on a brother's
errand or to his relief, even barefoot and upon flinty
ground ; to remember him in our supplications to
the Deity ; to clasp him to our heart and protect
him against misfortune and slander ; to uphold him
when about to stumble and fall ; and to give him
prudent, honest, and friendly counsel. Such are the
duties you are especially to observe and to teach to
others, for they a?e the first ordinances of Masonrv.

HISTORY.

you of the history of this degree, as it is fully given

King Solomon to conduct the work upon the Temple,
in the place of Hiram, the chief architect, who had
