Training Programs in the<br />
Health Care Industry<br />
Gloucester County College is pleased<br />
to provide training opportunities for<br />
individuals to acquire skills for these<br />
demand occupations in the Health-care<br />
Industry with high-wage potential,<br />
benefits and career mobility. These<br />
programs prepare students for the<br />
necessary certification exams and/or<br />
entry-level positions.<br />
Program Admission Requirements:<br />
Requirements must be completed prior<br />
to registration<br />
• Students may pick up an information<br />
packet at the Continuing Education<br />
Center<br />
• Students must be high school<br />
graduates or possess a GED<br />
• Students should maintain their own<br />
health insurance and maintain total<br />
responsibility and financing for their<br />
medical care while enrolled in the<br />
program<br />
• Students must have proof of<br />
Immunizations(Hepatitis B, MMR,<br />
Varicella, PPD–2-Step Process)<br />
Students must have a 2-step PPD<br />
and a note from their doctor<br />
indicating that they are in good<br />
health. After receiving the two<br />
required injections, your doctor<br />
must prepare a written<br />
documentation indicating the<br />
dates of the immunization, the<br />
dates read and the final results.<br />
We cannot accept testing that was<br />
completed over six months ago.<br />
• Students must complete and pass a<br />
background check and drug screening<br />
to be eligible for the allied health<br />
programs with clinical. The<br />
background check is an online process<br />

containing negative information may<br />
prevent placement for the clinical<br />
portion of the programs.<br />
Certified Clinical Medical<br />
Assistant<br />
Medical Assistants perform a variety<br />
of tasks to maintain efficiency in the<br />
healthcare environment. Some of these<br />
tasks include taking medical histories<br />
and recording vital signs, explaining<br />
procedures to patients, preparing patients<br />
for examinations and assisting physicians.<br />
The Medical Assisting Program is a<br />
300-hour training program which provides<br />
students with a wide range of skills to<br />
prepare them for a variety of opportunities<br />
in the healthcare field, including a Medical<br />
Assistant, Multi-skilled Technician, EKG<br />
Technician and/or Phlebotomy Technician.<br />
The 300 hours of training will incorporate<br />
classroom lectures and a hands-on clinical<br />
rotation. The clinical may be at a different<br />
day or time than the regular class time<br />
and students must be flexible in meeting<br />
this requirement. Students successfully<br />
completing all classroom and clinical<br />
requirements will be eligible to sit for the<br />
National Health career Association (NHA)<br />
certification examination. The cost of this<br />
exam is included in the program.<br />

Multi-Skilled Technician<br />
The Multi-Skilled Technician Program is<br />
designed to prepare students to train for<br />
one of the fastest growing professions in<br />
the health care industry today. The<br />
program focuses on building a complete<br />
and solid foundation for students in both<br />
classroom theory and hands-on clinical<br />
components. Students will build skills in<br />
basic and complex key concepts of<br />
anatomy and physiology, cardiac function,<br />
EKG and phlebotomy. Individuals<br />
prepared through the multi-skilled<br />
technician program may seek employment<br />
in hospitals, outpatient laboratories,<br />
cardiac rehabilitation centers and<br />
various other medical providers.<br />

Certified Phlebotomy<br />
Technician<br />
Jump start your career in the health<br />
care industry by participating in our<br />
Phlebotomy Technician Certificate<br />
program. According to the U.S. Bureau<br />
of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for<br />
clinical lab technicians, including job<br />
opportunities for Certified Phlebotomy<br />
Technicians are expected to grow by<br />
14 percent between 2006 and 2016.<br />
Phlebotomy Technicians are skilled in<br />
blood collection techniques and handling,<br />
transporting and processing the blood<br />
specimens. This program includes<br />
classroom instruction and laboratory<br />
practice on artificial arms plus clinical<br />
experiences at area medical facilities.<br />

Sat., Oct. 20 – Dec. 15, 9 am–1:30 pm<br />
The clinicals are scheduled during the<br />
day and students must be flexible in<br />
meeting this requirement. Students<br />
successfully completing all classroom<br />
and clinical requirements will be eligible<br />
to sit for the National Healthcareer<br />
Association (NHA) certification<br />
examination. The cost of this exam<br />
is included in the program.<br />
Pharmacy Technician<br />
The Pharmacy Technician Program<br />
is comprised of 60 hours of classroom<br />
instruction and practical clinical<br />
experience. It is designed to provide<br />
students with the technical knowledge<br />
and fundamental principles of pharmacy<br />
practice within a retail or hospital<br />
pharmacy setting. It will also enable<br />
students to take the Pharmacy Technician<br />
Certification Board (PTCB) examination<br />
or to obtain an entry-level position to<br />
practice as a technician within a retail<br />
or hospital pharmacy.<br />

• Basic Math and keyboarding skills<br />
