Far east of Europe<br />
In Ukraine, UkrSibbank (in which <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> acquired a 51% stake in April<br />
2006) has enjoyed fast-paced development since its acquisition with the<br />
opening of 217 new branches and the implementation of major restructuring<br />
efforts – simplifi cation of processes, stronger training and management<br />
efforts, improved internal control and risk management, etc. In parallel, local<br />
partnerships have been set up with Cetelem, BPLG and Cardif. UkrSibbank<br />
is also supporting the launch of other Group businesses (Arval, Atisreal and<br />
<strong>BNP</strong>P Asset Management). A partnership with AXA, strengthened by the<br />
joint acquisition of the 6th-largest local player, enabled AXA and UkrSibbank<br />
to achieve the 4th-ranking position on the property and casualty insurance<br />
market. UkrSibbank is now the country’s 3rd-largest bank in terms of assets<br />
and has been named bank of the year in Ukraine by Euromoney and Global<br />
Finance.<br />
In Russia, the Group invested in the organic development of a local bank<br />
network.<br />
Near and Middle East<br />
<strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> is currently implementing a large-scale expansion plan in Egypt.<br />
The Gulf States are served by the regional headquarters in Bahrain, which is<br />
responsible for six territories: Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia<br />
and Kuwait. A new branch was opened in Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates.<br />
The Group also has operations in Cyprus and Lebanon. A partnership with<br />
the International Private Banking business line offers comprehensive wealth<br />
management solutions for the entire region.
