80. GEORG C.C.W. PRAHL (1798 - 1883) “Handelskarle fra Nummedal i en Strilestue” Contemporary handcoloured lithograph, 17x20cm BERGEN 1827 - 30 From Prahl‘s important costume set “Norske National=Dragter”, the first plate work printed and published in Norway. Prahl was a captain, but set up the first lithographic workshop in Bergen c. 1827. Many Norwegian artists were commissioned in delivering drawings and sketches for the lithographic process. The set was published in parts and this print was drawn by Jacob Calmeyer (“1. Hefte - nr. 2“) and shows a cabin in Fana by Bergen. The costume views are important cultural documents. In “Från Fjon til Fusa” page 32: “Dette er et tidstypisk miljøbilde av stor kulturhistorisk verdi, det gjengir pålitelig et ekte, levende forhold”. Other lithographed prints published by Prahl are several Norwegian town views, maps and portraits. A colour fresh copy.
