The Steering group and sub-groups will continue to meet quarterly to assess
progress made towards the actions identified in the three year action plan.
Consultation and Involvement of other
Stakeholders
After extensive debate with key representatives from young people’s
advocacy services, it was decided not to invite young people to the steering or
sub-groups, it was felt that they may not feel able to express themselves fully
and honestly in such a forum. For that reason young peoples groups are
being sent the draft strategy and are being asked to comment on it at their
leisure. The writer particularly asked about readability as well as the plans.
Young people were asked to comment on how appropriate the actions are
and on how they would like to see local services improved, and the local
media campaign move forward. Young people were contacted through
agencies/groups including:
Investing in Children, End House Young Peoples Centre.
As actions are planned in more detail and implemented, young people will be
consulted again before plans are actioned. Focus groups will be used both to
consult and to evaluate projects.
The draft strategy was sent to all members of the Steering group, Darlington
Groups and the County Sub-groups for consultation. In addition, Chief
Executives of the Health Authority and all Primary Care Group Chairs and
Chief Executives were asked to comment. Local Further Education Colleges
were involved in the consultation process. The feedback will be incorporated
into the final version of the strategy to be submitted to the Teenage
Pregnancy Unit.
After consultation with stakeholders the strategy and action plans were
revised to incorporate their views.
