Directories of Services A directory of services has been produced for County Durham and Darlington and has been forwarded to the Sexwise database. We envisage that there will be two types of directory of services in County Durham and Darlington in addition to this. There will be a directory intended for use by professionals. This will enable any professional, education, voluntary sector, social services or health based to access information quickly and easily should a young person approach them for that information. The second directory will be designed by young people and it is intended that any young person would be able to use this directory directly without having to approach an intermediary adult. This will enhance the opportunity for young people to be empowered and to take control of their own sexual health. This directory could be included in already existing publications for young people such as the Social Service booklets. It will be the responsibility of the Tackling Teenage Pregnancy Co-ordinator to distribute the directories to relevant agencies and young people’s groups. 6. Details of Services Details of services will be actively advertised in schools, Health buses, Youth Clubs, Voluntary Sector, Drop in Services and other places where young people meet. Again, this will involve local businesses and employers. Links with the Health Promotion Specialist (HPS for the work place have been made and young people at work can be targeted in advertising health services. 7. The Local Media Strategy The local media strategy will be constantly reviewed to ensure that it gives messages which are consistent with the national campaign and to enable young people to be involved in the review and evaluation of the local media strategy. This will ensure that the messages which are given out are relevant and appropriate in their content and are being displayed in places where young people can access the information contained there in. Print media/newspapers will be used to maintain the profile of the Tackling Teenage Pregnancy work throughout County Durham and Darlington. Press releases and follow ups and radio. Wherever possible the work of difference agencies, voluntary sector, young peoples groups will be highlighted in this way. But the advertising of information and services directed at young people will be through other means (as detailed earlier) to ensure that young people have access to the messages, they can access the messages privately and they are therefore given every opportunity to retain the information which they need. 47
