General information<br />

Refer to the front of this manual for general test conditions,<br />

terminology, detailed descriptions of wiring faults and a<br />

general trouble shooter for electrical and mechanical faults.<br />

o <strong>Trouble</strong> codes are displayed by using an LED connected to<br />

the data link connector (DLC).<br />

0 The ECM fault memory can also be checked and erased<br />

using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link<br />

connector (DLC).<br />

0 Carry out road test for 10 minutes.<br />

Accessing<br />

Ensure ignition switched OFF.<br />

Connect test wire between black data link connector (DLC)<br />

terminal 1 rn [A] and brown data link connector (DLC)<br />

terminal 1 0 [El.<br />

Connect LED test lamp between black data link connector<br />

(DLC) terminal 2 [A] and brown data link connector<br />

(DLC) terminal 1 0 [El.<br />

Start engine. Allow to idle.<br />

NOTE: If engine does not start: Crank engine for 6 seconds.<br />

Leave ignition switched ON.<br />

Bridge test wire terminals 3 and 4 0.<br />

Disconnect test wire after 5 seconds.<br />

Check that LED flashes.<br />

Count LED flashes. Note trouble code.<br />

o Each trouble code consists of four groups of one to four<br />

flashes.<br />

n A 2,5 second pause separates each trouble code group H [A].<br />

Repeat operation. Note trouble codes. Compare with<br />

trouble code table.<br />

End of test sequence indicated by trouble code 0000<br />

(long flashes).<br />

Switch ignition OFF. Rectify faults as necessary.<br />
