16.4.1.3 Bin ary Plot File (PLTFIL). POSTCON processes the <strong>CONTAIN</strong> binary plot fde. This file<br />

is described in detail in Section 16.3.1.1. The name <strong>of</strong> this file is PLTFIL by default; however, this<br />

name can be changed in the FDB <strong>of</strong> the POSTCON input file (see Sections 16.4.3 and 16.4.4). As<br />

can be seen in Figure 16-1, PLTFIL is an input to the POSTCON process. Because the plot file is<br />

used during POSTCON initialization, it must always be present, even if no processing <strong>of</strong> the binary<br />

plot file is to be per<strong>for</strong>med during a particular POSTCON run.<br />

16.4.1.4 Table Outmt File (POUT). Postprocessed <strong>CONTAIN</strong> dat~ organized in tabular <strong>for</strong>m, are<br />

written to a file named POUT by default. As can be seen from Figure 16-1, these tables are<br />

generated be<strong>for</strong>e the mixing process, so the tables cannot reflect the results <strong>of</strong> mixing.<br />

The POSTCON tables are comprised <strong>of</strong> a collection <strong>of</strong> data curves presented in columns. All curves<br />

in any one table correspond to the same plot flag and TBD, with the possible exception <strong>of</strong> snapshot<br />

curves. For example, one column in the table <strong>for</strong> plot flag 101 maybe the temperature in cell 1, and<br />

another may be the temperature in cell 2. Further discussion <strong>of</strong> table curves is given in Section 16.6.<br />

The tables generated by POSTCON normally consist <strong>of</strong> a maximum <strong>of</strong> eight columns per section.<br />

If there are more than nine curves in a TBD, then the table will be printed in two or more<br />

appropriately labeled sections. An exception to this rule is made when a table can be completed by<br />

including a ninth column in the last section. This prevents a single column from being placed in a<br />

section by itself (unless <strong>of</strong> course there is only one column in the table). Each table (or table section)<br />

is printed with the correct unit labels and a brief descriptive title. The tables are <strong>for</strong>matted using<br />

FORTRAN carriage control in pages <strong>of</strong> length 66 with titles appearing on each page and new tables<br />

beginning on a fresh page. The minimum, maximum, and average <strong>of</strong> the extracted values are printed<br />

at the bottom <strong>of</strong> each table column. NOTE: Since POSTCON can extract data at user-defined time<br />

intervals, the minimum, maximum, and average values reported may not apply to the entire<br />

calculation.<br />

16.4.1.5 Vector File (PVEC]. Postprocessed <strong>CONTAIN</strong> data, organized in vector <strong>for</strong>m, are written<br />

to a fde named PVEC by default. A vector is an x-y data pair, normally with time as the independent<br />

variable. The primary function <strong>of</strong> the vector file is to provide an interface between <strong>CONTAIN</strong><br />

results and a graphics package.<br />

The PVEC file also serves as an input file <strong>for</strong> the mixing process. Vectors are read in from the<br />

PVEC file and the manipulated results are output, as vectors, to the PMIX file.<br />

16.4.1.6 ~). The mix file is created by the POSTCON mixing process. When<br />

algebraic manipulations are per<strong>for</strong>med on vectors from the PVEC fde, the results are written to a fde<br />

named PMIX by default. The <strong>for</strong>mat <strong>of</strong> this file is identical to that <strong>of</strong> the PVEC file.<br />

If a curve, or set <strong>of</strong> vectors, cannot be found in the PVEC file, the PMIX file is also searched. This<br />

allows the user to create a curve with one mix expression and refer to that curve in a later expression.<br />

Thus, the PMIX file is both an input to and an output from the mixing process <strong>of</strong> POSTCON.<br />
