containment failure.<br />

In addition to the code validation discussed above, it should be noted that numerous integrated<br />

analyses or code applications have been per<strong>for</strong>med which are not directly associated with the<br />

validation and assessment ef<strong>for</strong>t. However, such applications are important contributors to the<br />

overall objective <strong>of</strong> code validation in the sense that they <strong>of</strong>ten identifj modeling weaknesses andlor<br />

code errors.<br />

The following two conclusions are made regarding the overall capabilities <strong>of</strong> <strong>CONTAIN</strong> and ef<strong>for</strong>ts<br />

to validate and assess these capabilities:<br />

1. The <strong>CONTAIN</strong> code is a fully operational containment analysis tool that can be used with a<br />

reasonable degree <strong>of</strong> confidence to address abroad class <strong>of</strong> containment issues.<br />

2. A critical component <strong>of</strong> the development <strong>of</strong> <strong>CONTAIN</strong> and the establishment <strong>of</strong> the current<br />

level <strong>of</strong> contldence has been the existence <strong>of</strong> programs to validate and assess the code against<br />

experimental data and other appropriate sources.<br />
