July ii, iSj6. the attorney general of Pennsylvania appointed
him deputy attorney general, and in Feb., 182S, Calvin
Blyth, the then attorney general made him his secretary for
that part of the State where he resided. He practised law
at Blossburg until 1865. In 1817 he first united with the
Masons, he united with the Royal Arch Chapter of Masons.

H. P. "Clarendon was a tall man; had fine blue eyes,
was noted for his love of children and for his cordial hospi-
tality. He was a religious man. both he and his wife died in
the hope of a glorious immortality." He died Aug. 26,
1892. The five first children were born in Lawrenceville,
the rest in Blossburgh:
