commanded the steamship Bienville, which traded between
New York and Havana. He commenced his sea life and
made his first voyage in the packet ship, George vVashington,
belonging to Grinell. Minturn & Co. The Captain,
Walter Rathbone spoken of in the book. "Old Merchants"
of New York was in fact Capt. William Rathbone mentioned
above, so
