1842. Sept. 3, 1862, he enlisted in Co. K., 26th Regiment,<br />

Connecticut Volunteers to serve nine months. The regiment<br />

was assigned to duty in Dow's brigade. Sherman's division,<br />

10th army corps and under the command of General<br />

Bank. He was at the siege of Port Hudson from May 27,<br />

to July 9, 1863, including assaults from May 27 to July 9, of<br />

same year. He was discharged Aug. 17, 1863. Sometime<br />

afterward he entered the employ of J. B. Luderman; he was<br />

first sent to Elizabeth. X. J., where he remained rive years;<br />

thence to Perth Amboy, XT .<br />

death, Jan. 13. 1885. Children:<br />

Elizabeth, N. J.. Feb. 13, 1871; was buried at Southampton, Mass.<br />

2. Henry Packer, b. in Elizabeth, N. J., Feb. 16, 1872; d. at<br />

Perth Amboy, N. J., Mar. 21, 1881: buried at Southampton.<br />

3. Mary Elizabeth, b. Sept. 2, 1874.<br />
