an improvement in profitability and unit<br />

cost performance across all its international<br />

operations. At the same time, each business has<br />

focused on maintaining the highest level<br />

of customer service standards.<br />

Dnata Cargo<br />

The significant shift of focus to premium<br />

services helped Dnata Cargo succeed with their<br />

“more with less” concept as tonnage handled for<br />

foreign airlines declined. The division increased<br />

revenue by 18 per cent to AED 343 million as it<br />

handled some 627,353 tonnes of freight.<br />

The major milestone was the launch of Calogi,<br />

a pioneering web-based cargo services portal.<br />

Calogi is the most <strong>com</strong>prehensive development<br />

so far for the cargo industry, the biggest and<br />

most <strong>com</strong>plete IATA e-freight <strong>com</strong>pliant solution<br />

available today.<br />

In all, 116,000 documents were processed<br />

through Calogi by the cargo <strong>com</strong>munity.<br />

All Freight Gates reported improved<br />

performance. The milestones for each are<br />

covered here.<br />

FreightGate-1 implemented 100 per cent<br />

screening for passenger aircraft lower deck<br />

cargo loads through the installation of two<br />

high-powered screening machines and<br />

introduced hand-held terminals in the cargo<br />

build-up areas to increase productivity.<br />

FreightGate-2 concluded a landmark deal with<br />

Empost and reported a healthy 14.8 per cent<br />

growth in the mail business and a 9.5 per cent<br />

increase in courier products.<br />

FreightGate-3 saw the <strong>com</strong>pletion of a special<br />

storage section for dangerous goods. The<br />

parking and landing restrictions, banning<br />

certain aircraft, were <strong>com</strong>pensated for by<br />

concentration on the provision of premium<br />

services.<br />

FreightGate-4 saw 89 per cent occupancy<br />

rates achieved for the 19 new agent-bonded<br />

warehouses, which catered to the requirements<br />

of the agent and freight forwarders, ensuring<br />

direct delivery.<br />

FreightGate-5 saw the fully-automated<br />

warehouse systems operation maturing with 15<br />

per cent volume growth over the previous year<br />

and office occupancy reaching 90 per cent.<br />

FreightGate-6 at the Dubai Flower Centre,<br />

which provides special protection for<br />

temperature-sensitive products between the<br />

aircraft and terminal, experienced growth of<br />

16.25 per cent.<br />

FreightGate-7 at the Jebel Ali Free Zone moved<br />

into a new facility increasing capacity from 500<br />

to 2,500 square metres and reported a 15.5 per<br />

cent growth.<br />

FreightGate-8 sees Dnata Cargo be<strong>com</strong>e a<br />

warehouse handling service provider at the new<br />

Al Maktoum International Airport at Jebel Ali.<br />

Preparatory work has <strong>com</strong>menced to support<br />

the trials and the operational opening<br />

of the new airport.<br />

Dnata Cargo Partners added Jet Airways and<br />

Yas Air to the total number of airlines in its<br />

portfolio which now numbers 34.<br />

Dnata Cargo maintained its accreditation to<br />

ISO-9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 and TAPA<br />

standards.<br />

A new joint venture was created between SDV<br />

France, SDV Africa, Dnata and the Kanoo Group<br />

focusing on international freight-forwarding<br />

routes specifically serving France and Africa.<br />
