Distributed I/O on the PROFIBUS
Ex hub: Intrinsically safe distribution block
for PROFIBUS PA
Ex Hub-iPlus
• For assembly in Zone 1, 2, 21 or 22
• Connection to non-intrinsically-safe PROFIBUS PA backbone
• 4 intrinsically-safe, short-circuit-proof branch circuits, each
40 mA, max. length 120 m
• Electrical isolation between PROFIBUS PA backbone and
PROFIBUS PA branches
• With external feed (options: 24 V DC, 120 V AC, 230 V AC)
• Max. load of PROFIBUS PA backbone: 10 mA
Ex Hub-PA Protector
• Distributor for non-intrinsically-safe applications (installation in
Zone 2)
• 6 short-circuit-proof branches, each 60 mA
• Without external feed
Hot-swap in Zone 1 with EEx e- or EEx d connectors
When installing in hazardous areas it is important to be able to
operate and replace I/O components while live. The intrinsicallysafe
branches of the Ex Hubs are accessible at all times. Field
devices can be connected and disconnected here while live
without any danger.
The non-intrinsically-safe EEx e PROFIBUS PA backbone is normally
only accessible in the de-energized state, or with permission
for live working. An alternative to this is offered by the eX-
Link connector. Together with a T-distributor, this allows Ex Hubs
to be retrofitted in hazardous areas in order to extend the plant.

Quick mounting
Quick-mounting platforms are available for installing the
Ex Hubs. These permit installation without a live working permit.
The Ex-Hubs can simply be snapped into place on the quickmounting
plates. The quick-mounting plates themselves can be
snapped onto grid slots or fitted to tubes using a simple bolted
fixing.
