struggled, we’ve struggled very hard with the question <strong>of</strong> education. I want<br />

to salute the School Committee and the Superintendent <strong>of</strong> Schools; every<br />

step <strong>of</strong> the way, they’ve been critical partners with the <strong>Town</strong> in addressing<br />

problems with the revenues shrinking. There’s a $500,000 decrease in the<br />

educational program for next year. It’s going to be very difficult to absorb<br />

that into the school system. But I think it’s part <strong>of</strong> our adaptation to this<br />

changing environment. What we’ve proven is that you can’t do it pitting<br />

one department against another. It has to be a town-wide effort and it has<br />

to be an effort that includes all departments and all <strong>of</strong> our policy leaders.<br />

And it’s going on right now.<br />

And if I could wrap things up for you, I will. This is some <strong>of</strong> our<br />

younger constituents that are the beneficiaries <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> the major<br />

services that we perform.<br />

Maybe just go to the next slide. You can’t see it too well, but<br />

that’s a gym full <strong>of</strong> kids that depend on the Recreation Department<br />

services that they provide. And I just want to wrap things up a little for you,<br />

now.<br />

In terms <strong>of</strong> this issue <strong>of</strong> resiliency, which again means coming<br />

out <strong>of</strong> this recession a stronger community than we went into it, I think it’s<br />

possible. I’m not being overly optimistic. We have our work cut out for us,<br />

ladies and gentlemen. It’s not going to be easy adapting to this change.<br />

But if you look at it in the structure, and we have mounting evidence <strong>of</strong>
