Command Syntax Command Mode Purpose<br />

ip domain-name name CONFIGURATION Configure one domain name for the E-Series<br />

To configure a list of domain names, use the following command in the CONFIGURATION mode:<br />

ip domain-list name CONFIGURATION Configure names to complete unqualified host<br />

names. Configure this command up to 6 times to<br />

specify a list of possible domain names.<br />

The software searches the domain names in the<br />

order they were configured until a match is found or<br />

the list is exhausted.<br />

DNS with traceroute<br />

To configure your switch to perform DNS with traceroute, follow the steps below in the<br />

CONFIGURATION mode.<br />

Command Syntax Command Mode Purpose<br />

ip domain-lookup CONFIGURATION Enable dynamic resolution of host names.<br />

ip name-server ip-address<br />

[ip-address2 ... ip-address6]<br />

CONFIGURATION Specify up to 6 name servers. The order you entered<br />

the servers determines the order of their use.<br />

traceroute [host | ip-address ] CONFIGURATION When you enter the traceroute command without<br />

specifying an IP address (Extended Traceroute), you<br />

are prompted for a target and source IP address,<br />

timeout in seconds (default is 5), a probe count<br />

(default is 3), minimum TTL (default is 1), maximum<br />

TTL (default is 30), and port number (default is<br />

33434). To keep the default setting for those<br />

parameters, press the ENTER key.<br />
