sustainable livelihoods analyses need to take more account of gender, age,<br />

ethnicity and class (e.g. Bebbington, 1999; Ellis, 2000) or that aspects of<br />

cultural sustainability are important to sustainable development (e.g. Overton<br />

et al, 1999; Clark, 2002). Often cultural considerations have been seen to ‘fall’<br />

under the guise of social capital but as Bebbington (1999: 2034) comments,<br />

cultural capital is not the same as social capital, although there are overlaps.<br />
