SEARCH & RESCUE TEAM/FIRE TEAM<br />

(Joe Monteleone, Kevin Berns, Paul Harrison - Operations Section)<br />

Duties:<br />

1. Search all facilities for injured or trapped personnel to ensure complete evacuation.<br />

2. Perform fire suppression on small fires. (<strong>School</strong> fire extinguishers are not capable of putting out large fires. The<br />

only time they would be used in a large fire is to assist with evacuation.)<br />

3. Perform life-saving first aid when needed.<br />

4. DO NOT ENTER UNSAFE BUILDINGS OR LOCATIONS.<br />

5. DO NOT REMOVE DEAD BODIES.<br />

Assignment:<br />

Personnel trained and physically capable to perform light rescue<br />

Location:<br />

Near the Command Center and/or Storage Container so that the tools are readily accessible following aftershocks or<br />

subsequent disaster occurrences.<br />

Training:<br />

1. Standard First Aid<br />

2. CPR<br />

3. Fire Extinguisher Usage - Fire Department or fire extinguisher service company can supply<br />

4. Urban light search and rescue is recommended.<br />

Equipment:<br />

1. Fire extinguishers (used only for small fire suppression or to assist evacuation)<br />

2. First aid kit and stretcher or body board<br />

3. Flashlight and extra batteries<br />

4. Ax, crowbar, pry bar<br />

5. Campus 2-way radio (get from Command Center)<br />

6. Leather gloves<br />

7. Hard hats/goggles/respirators<br />

8. Sturdy shoes<br />

9. Blanket<br />

10. Disaster Team Report Form, paper, and pencils/pens<br />

11. Detailed map of site marked with predetermined search routes<br />

12. Master Keys<br />

13. Chalk, grease pencil, masking tape for marking doors<br />

14. Duct tape<br />

15. Mortality Management Guidelines (FEMA Multihazard <strong>Safe</strong>ty Program for <strong>School</strong>s)-Get from Medical First<br />

Aid Team<br />

Procedures:<br />

After evacuation from classroom or work area, report to Emergency Assembly Area (EAA). Classroom teachers take<br />

roll of students (and other school personnel assigned to their classrooms) and report to Command Center, using<br />

Accountability Report. Other school personnel report to the EAA and check in with their department.<br />
