One should understand that illuminating
and refining the minds is the real goal
of education. Unfortunately, nowadays
the parents feel that any school that
imposes un-imaginable work load on
the children and has extended school
hours is an ideal school for their
children to come up in life without
realising that in that process they are
just spoiling the basic abilities, aptitude,
growing process etc. of their children.
In fact value based education is the
requirement of the day. Right type of
living, exemplary discipline, modesty,
respecting elders, controlling the
senses, loving the country etc should
be considered as important ingredients
of Education besides imparting
required knowledge in various subjects
in accordance with the curriculum of
the school. The schools should also
devote reasonable time to teach Yoga,
Meditation, Etiquettes, Ethics, Values
etc. Creating a conducive ambience in
every school for the children to learn
to be disciplined, honest, generous
and selfless should be the sincere
endeavour of the authorities managing
the schools.
The Supreme Court of India has recently
upheld the validity of Clause 12 of the
Right to Education Act which envisages
that aided and non-aided private
schools should reserve 25% of the
seats for the disadvantaged children in
their neighbourhoods. This judgement
certainly creates an opportunity for
all such schools to become a place
for social transformation. To what
extent the provisions of the above said
judgement will be implemented in
letter and spirit with required sincerity
by the schools concerned all over India
is required to be closely watched. A
socially mixed school with its contacts
and experience will certainly promote
greater social integration of the
children studying there.
The first CRPF Public School established
many years back at Rohini, Delhi had
started functioning on sound footing
and had taken care of the education
of the children of all ranks of CRPF
besides providing certain percentage
of seats to the children of general
public also thus becoming a centre for
Central Reserve Police Force
