Sh. Pranay Sahay, DG CRPF presented a bouquet to the Chief Guest, Governor of A.P.
Welcoming the Chief Guest DG CRPF
Sh. Pranay Sahay praised the RAF for
its dedication and service to the nation.
He said that to deal with riots or riotlike
situations, a specially selected,
trained and equipped force was raised
in October 1992 by re-organizing 10
CRPF Bns into Rapid Action Force
Battalions. He said that in the past
20 years the force has maintained
law and order, social harmony and
instilled confidence in people. He said
that the emphasis of the force is on
modernization, special equipments
and dedicated and innovative training.
The Governor presented Police Medal
for Meritorious Service to 34 Officers
and men. He also awarded best Ops
Bn Trophy to 99 Bn, Best ADM Bn
Trophy jointly to 100 Bn and 105 Bn
and Best Cost Effectiveness and Best
Financial Discipline Trophy to 100 Bn.
Six contingents of RAF participated
in the march past followed by Riot
Control vehicle Vajra, Fire Tender
and 3 Tableaux depicting communal
harmony, disaster management and
humane face of RAF.
Increasing communal tension in the
country necessitated creation of a
specialized and sensitive force to deal
exclusively with riots and riot-like
situation and to prevent loss of life and
property during communal violence.
Accordingly a specially selected,
trained and equipped force within the
Central Reserve Police Force was raised
as Rapid Action Force during October
1992. 10 CRPF Battalions were thus,
trained and reorganise into RAF Bns
and located at identified sensitive place
i.e. Ahmedabad, Aligarh, Allahabad,
Bhopal, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad,
Jamshedpur, Meerut and Mumbai.
With a touch of sincerity and respect
for the public this Force is primarily
designed to deal with riots or riotlike
situations and also to assist civil
administration in rescue and relief
