The Department of Biology in Emory College of<br />

Emory University invites applications for the position<br />

of Department Chair and Professor of Biology.<br />

Emory is an internationally known research university<br />

and will soon begin a comprehensive fundraising<br />

campaign to strengthen its research and<br />

teaching programs. The Biology Department is<br />

currently composed of 23 tenure-track faculty and<br />

seven senior lecturers and lecturers. The successful<br />

candidate for this position will have a distinguished<br />

record of extramurally funded research and scholarly<br />

activity sufficient to merit appointment at the<br />

rank of tenured FULL PROFESSOR in Emory<br />

College. Applicants must have a doctoral degree or<br />

its equivalent in biology, or other appropriate discipline<br />

and should have a research focus in one of<br />

the three areas of research strengths in the Department:<br />

population biology, ecology, and evolution;<br />

computational neuroscience; genetics, cell, and<br />

excellent communication, leadership, and administrative<br />

skills and should have a strong commitment<br />

to undergraduate and graduate teaching. The successful<br />

The Department of Biology and the Biocomplexity<br />

Institute invite applications for two tenure-track<br />

faculty positions in experimental and/or computational<br />

systems biology. We anticipate an appointment<br />

at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level, but<br />

outstanding SENIOR-level candidates will also be<br />

considered. We will be especially interested in individuals<br />

whose research will enhance our current<br />

strengths in: (1) mechanisms of bacterial cell function,<br />

(2) cell differentiation and developmental biology,<br />

and (3) biomolecular networks, including<br />

signaling, gene regulatory, and metabolic networks.<br />

The successful candidate will have strong interdisciplinary<br />

interests and will benefit from opportunities<br />

to collaborate with scientists in the<br />

Departments of Biology, Medical Sciences, Physics,<br />

Chemistry, Mathematics, the School of Informatics,<br />

the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics,<br />

and the Biocomplexity Institute. While his/her<br />

primary appointment will be in the Department of<br />

Biology, joint appointments with other departments<br />

are possible.<br />

This position is part of a major expansion of<br />

Indiana University (IU)-Bloomington_s research<br />

efforts in the life sciences. That expansion includes<br />

construction of two research buildings, a new National<br />

Science Foundation Integrative Graduate<br />

Education and Research Traineeship program in<br />

genomics, evolution, and development, new program<br />

initiatives including Metabolomics and Cytomics<br />

Initiative, a $53 million dollar project in<br />

molecular and cellular life sciences, a program in<br />

human biology, and new hiring in microbiology,<br />

biochemistry, cell and developmental biology, molecular<br />

evolution, and ecology.<br />

establish a vigorous, externally funded research program<br />

and to participate in teaching undergraduate<br />
