The number<strong>in</strong>g recommended by the Commission on Biological Nomenclature is used. This<br />

number (preceeded by the letters E.C. for Enzyme Commission) is <strong>in</strong>dicated after each<br />

enzyme.<br />

(i) Glucose Phosphate Isomerase (GP!) E.C.5.3.1.9<br />

Buffers: bridge 0.2M P0 4 pH 7.0<br />

Gel 1 <strong>in</strong> 10 dilution <strong>of</strong> bridge buffer<br />

(ii) Malic Enzyme (ME) E.C.1.1.1.40<br />

Buffers: bridge 0.2M P0 4 I 0.2M citrate buffer pH 7.0<br />

Gel 1 <strong>in</strong> 5 dilution <strong>of</strong> bridge buffer<br />

(iii) Phosphoglucomutase (PGM) E.C 2.7.5.1<br />

Bridge buffer: 0.1M Tris maleate pH 7.4<br />

Gel buffer is 1 <strong>in</strong> 10 dilution <strong>of</strong> bridge buffer<br />

(iv) Hexok<strong>in</strong>ase (HK) E.C 2.7.1.1<br />

Bridge buffer 0.2 M Tris maleate pH 7.4<br />

Gel buffer is 1 <strong>in</strong> 10 dilution <strong>of</strong> Tris maleate<br />

(v) Glucose- 6- Phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) E.C 1.1.1. 49<br />

Buffers:<br />

Bridge: 0.1 M NaH 2 P0 4 , pH 7.0.<br />

NADP (0.22ml <strong>of</strong> 5mg/ml) was added to 75ml <strong>of</strong> the cathodal end compartment.<br />

Gel: 1 <strong>in</strong> 40 dilution' <strong>of</strong> bridge buffer. NADP (0.48 ml <strong>of</strong> 5mg/ml) was added to<br />

heated gel mixture just before degass<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
