academic writing skills.
• provide detailed feedback to students in order to
make them realise their weak points in essay writing
and offer ways and techniques to strengthen their
writing skills.
• develop students’ critical and analytical thinking
skills in order to enable them to express their ideas
on paper in the form of an argumentative essay.
• Pre-writing stage (purpose and audience/ implied
reader- generating ideas)
• Narrative and descriptive paragraphs (analysing
extracts taken from literary texts)
• Expository paragraphs (the techniques of supporting
the topic sentence and the controlling idea)
• Revising the steps of essay writing.
• Thesis statement and a detailed study of writing an
essay in coherence with the thesis statement

• Compare and Contrast Essay
By the end of the course, students will be expected to
improve their critical thinking and reasoning skills, and on a
given topic students will be able to express their ideas in a
more rational way and support their ideas with reliable
evidence and irrefutable reasons.
Providing ‘model’ essays, analysing and discussing the
writing processes of each kind of essays, and designing
individual writing tasks + providing thorough feedback after
each assigned writing task.
Individual writing tasks on selected topics in relation with
the course syllabus.
