Supported Outside Agencies<br />

Lakes Region Planning Commission<br />

The Lakes Region Planning Commission (LRPC) is an organization established according to state law to<br />

provide area communities and the region with the capacity to respond to and shape the pressures <strong>of</strong> change<br />

in a purposeful way. With a service area covering over 1,200 square miles in Belknap, Carroll, Grafton and<br />

Merrimack Counties, the LRPC provides a wide range <strong>of</strong> planning services to member municipalities. As<br />

our economy and world change, so does the work we are engaged in. The Commission <strong>of</strong>fers direct and<br />

support services including technical assistance, geographic information systems, transportation planning,<br />

land use, environmental planning, hazards planning and economic development. Local, state, and federal<br />

resources primarily fund the LRPC. We also maintain a regular dialogue with state agencies as a resource<br />

for the entire Lakes Region. Our overall goal is to provide support, knowledge, and guidance to the<br />

governments, businesses, and citizens <strong>of</strong> the Lakes Region.<br />

Some <strong>of</strong> the services provided on behalf <strong>of</strong> the town <strong>of</strong> <strong>Meredith</strong> and the region in the past fiscal year are:<br />

OUTREACH<br />

Prepared historic and projected traffic volume graphics for the town’s Master Plan.<br />

Conducted a Road Surface Management System (RSMS) assessment for the town.<br />

Provided cartographic information to the Community Planning <strong>of</strong>fice, as requested.<br />

Developed project team for the Gilford-Laconia-<strong>Meredith</strong> stormwater regulation project on Lake<br />

Winnipesaukee. Worked with municipal planners to develop project questionnaire.<br />

Toured the <strong>Meredith</strong> Transfer Station and DPW facility with local <strong>of</strong>ficial; spoke with consultants,<br />

Peregrine Energy Group, about the feasibility <strong>of</strong> providing additional Energy Technical Assistance<br />

related to the Transfer Station and the Department <strong>of</strong> Public Works campus.<br />

Provided copies <strong>of</strong> the NH Planning and Land Use Regulations book to the town at considerable<br />

savings.<br />

REGIONAL SERVICES<br />

Modified and improved Community Facility maps for LRPC communities and posted them to LRPC’s<br />

website.<br />

Reviewed and edited the draft Pemigewasset Local River Advisory Committee (PRLAC) Annual<br />

Summary.<br />

Hosted a statewide meeting <strong>of</strong> the Regional Planning Commission (RPC)/Homeland Security and<br />

Emergency Management (HSEM) staff to discuss the process for Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP)<br />

updates, Local Emergency Operations Plan (LEOP) updates, and other project issues.<br />

Hosted over 150 people who attended LRPC’s Annual Meeting that featured Mark Fenton, Consultant,<br />

TV Host, Author, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, and Athlete who advocates community planning that promotes health and<br />

economic goals, including public transit opportunities and connected walkways, trails, and bike routes.<br />

Awards were provided to a number <strong>of</strong> people and organizations for their contributions to their<br />

communities and the Lakes Region.<br />

Received substantial funding to prepare a new regional plan for the Lakes Region. A three year effort,<br />

the plan will include a comprehensive public involvement process and generate considerable new data<br />

for use by local communities.<br />
