The entire LDAP directory structure is referred to<br />

as the Directory Information Tree (or Dit).<br />

The Dit can be broken up across multiple LDAP<br />

servers. These subparts are partitions.<br />

All objects within a partition must share a common<br />

ancestor, and the common ancestor<br />

must itself reside within the partition. The shared<br />

ancestor is called the partition root.<br />
