China is rapidly being transformed from a rural and agricultural society to one with large urban<br />
centers which use enormous amounts <strong>of</strong> energy. This FDP will provide information about the<br />
planning processes in cities and investments being made in alternative energy.<br />
We begin the morning by travelling to the Urban Planning museum, a 5-story museum which is<br />
one <strong>of</strong> the largest showcases <strong>of</strong> urban development and which includes a vast scale model <strong>of</strong><br />
Shanghai as it may look in 2020. Proceed next to the McKinsey Company headquarters to meet<br />
with members <strong>of</strong> the Joint U.S. – China Collaboration on Clean Energy (JUCCCE). The<br />
American-Chinese collaboration is engaged in the “Energy Smart Cities Initiative” and will<br />
explore many <strong>of</strong> the efforts <strong>of</strong> investing in clean energy in China. Afterward, finish with a visit to<br />
Xintiandi, a two-square-block pedestrian mall, for lunch (on your own). Please note: Proper<br />
dress is requested for meeting with business <strong>of</strong>ficials. OOPEX include local currency for lunch.
