MAU12 BLUE ESCAPE:<br />
CATAMARAN AND SNORKELIN<br />

Spend the whole day on a catamaran as<br />
you view the forest<br />
and mountains <strong>of</strong> the southwest region <strong>of</strong> Mauritius and it’s<br />
magnificent lagoon by sea. Sail to Tamarin Bay where, if you<br />
are lucky, you<br />
might see dolphins! Continue to Crystal Rock<br />
to observe a variety <strong>of</strong> fish and other<br />
marine life as you<br />
snorkel in the clear waters. (Snorkeling equipment is<br />
provided.) During the cruise, the catamaran brings you<br />
alongside Ile aux Benitiers islet to enjoy the beach and a<br />
barbecue lunch. Please note: Wear your<br />
swimsuit underneath<br />
your clothes; bring a towel and sun protection.<br />

Mauritius is an Indian Ocean gem whose rich marine waters aree threatened by development on the island. We<br />
will travel to<br />
the Mauritius Marine Science Research Institute at Albion, where a specialist will present<br />
information on all the branches <strong>of</strong> the institution: Aquaculture, Marine Science, Marine Parks, Marine Research,<br />
and Fisheries. Enjoy a tour <strong>of</strong> the various departments and laboratories. Then proceed to Beau Vallon in the<br />
southeast part<br />
<strong>of</strong> the island, accompanied by a marine park specialist. Take a boat ride to Ils aux Deux<br />
Cocos, a<br />
private, uninhabited island, for lunch on the beach.<br />
After lunch, divide into smaller groups <strong>of</strong> 15 and<br />
visit the<br />
marine park in glass-bottom boats with<br />
an opportunity to snorkel (equipment provided). In the mean time, the<br />
remaining participants willl have free time on the beach to visit the islet or the deluxe villa. The trip willl conclude<br />
with a discussion about sustainability <strong>of</strong><br />
the ecosystems we have observed.<br />
MAU14 HIKE IN THE MOUNTAIN<br />
NS & BEACH<br />

Mauritius has a central plateau and extinct volcanic craters wheree rivers and waterfalls meet to create fascinating<br />
gorges & peaks. At the apex <strong>of</strong> this plateau rise threee mountain ranges characterized by basaltic rocks, beautifully<br />
shaped and surrounded by magnificent and unique vegetation. Discover this national heritage site during a hike<br />
(about two hours) to the peak Le Pouce. Shaped like a thumb, Le Pouce is 2, ,661-feet highh and a part <strong>of</strong> the Port<br />
Louis Mountain Range.<br />
Return to St. Pierre where the coaches await you and<br />
have lunch at Eureka Colonial House<br />
situated at the foot <strong>of</strong><br />
Moka mountain range and near a waterfall. The house<br />
is located in a tropical garden, visit the<br />
colonial house with its<br />
ancient furniture and hear a brief story its history. After lunch, a stop is scheduled at Flic en<br />
Flac, one <strong>of</strong> the best<br />
beaches situated on the west coast <strong>of</strong> the island for free time. Please note: Wear running shoes for the hike; bring<br />
your swimsuit, towel and sun protection.<br />

Visit the Ayurverdic Hospital in Belvedere and discover the ancestral Indian way <strong>of</strong> healing. Ayurvedic<br />
medicine<br />
is an “alternative” medical practice that claims it is based on the traditional medicine <strong>of</strong> India. Ayurveda is<br />
derived from two Sanskrit terms: ayu meaning life and veda meaning knowledge or science. Since the practice is<br />
said to be some 5,000 years old in India, what it considers to be knowledge orr science may<br />
not coincide<br />
with the<br />
most updated information available to Western medicine.<br />
