MAU12 BLUE ESCAPE:
CATAMARAN AND SNORKELIN

Spend the whole day on a catamaran as
you view the forest
and mountains of the southwest region of Mauritius and it’s
magnificent lagoon by sea. Sail to Tamarin Bay where, if you
are lucky, you
might see dolphins! Continue to Crystal Rock
to observe a variety of fish and other
marine life as you
snorkel in the clear waters. (Snorkeling equipment is
provided.) During the cruise, the catamaran brings you
alongside Ile aux Benitiers islet to enjoy the beach and a
barbecue lunch. Please note: Wear your
swimsuit underneath
your clothes; bring a towel and sun protection.
MAU13 MARINE SCIENCE RESEARCH & MARINE PARK

Mauritius is an Indian Ocean gem whose rich marine waters aree threatened by development on the island. We
will travel to
the Mauritius Marine Science Research Institute at Albion, where a specialist will present
information on all the branches of the institution: Aquaculture, Marine Science, Marine Parks, Marine Research,
and Fisheries. Enjoy a tour of the various departments and laboratories. Then proceed to Beau Vallon in the
southeast part
of the island, accompanied by a marine park specialist. Take a boat ride to Ils aux Deux
Cocos, a
private, uninhabited island, for lunch on the beach.
After lunch, divide into smaller groups of 15 and
visit the
marine park in glass-bottom boats with
an opportunity to snorkel (equipment provided). In the mean time, the
remaining participants willl have free time on the beach to visit the islet or the deluxe villa. The trip willl conclude
with a discussion about sustainability of
the ecosystems we have observed.
MAU14 HIKE IN THE MOUNTAIN
NS & BEACH

Mauritius has a central plateau and extinct volcanic craters wheree rivers and waterfalls meet to create fascinating
gorges & peaks. At the apex of this plateau rise threee mountain ranges characterized by basaltic rocks, beautifully
shaped and surrounded by magnificent and unique vegetation. Discover this national heritage site during a hike
(about two hours) to the peak Le Pouce. Shaped like a thumb, Le Pouce is 2, ,661-feet highh and a part of the Port
Louis Mountain Range.
Return to St. Pierre where the coaches await you and
have lunch at Eureka Colonial House
situated at the foot of
Moka mountain range and near a waterfall. The house
is located in a tropical garden, visit the
colonial house with its
ancient furniture and hear a brief story its history. After lunch, a stop is scheduled at Flic en
Flac, one of the best
beaches situated on the west coast of the island for free time. Please note: Wear running shoes for the hike; bring
your swimsuit, towel and sun protection.

Visit the Ayurverdic Hospital in Belvedere and discover the ancestral Indian way of healing. Ayurvedic
medicine
is an “alternative” medical practice that claims it is based on the traditional medicine of India. Ayurveda is
derived from two Sanskrit terms: ayu meaning life and veda meaning knowledge or science. Since the practice is
said to be some 5,000 years old in India, what it considers to be knowledge orr science may
not coincide
with the
most updated information available to Western medicine.
