HIKE (0800-1600 Saturday, 25 September) Minimum 30/ Maximum
40 (PRICE: $83) PRE-SALE ONLY
Drive along the Western corridor through rubber plantations to Ankasa National Park for a rewarding rainforest
experience. Having the highest plant diversity, Ankasa is one of most protected
areas in Ghana. Studies in the area
have identified over 300 plant species in a single hectare. The canopies of this wet evergreen forest are rarely
closed and considerably lower than in the moist evergreen forest zone. In the northern portion, the forest
structure
resembles a mature tropical rainforest
with minimal signs of human disturbance. Ankasa offers the unique
opportunity of
seeing one the few remaining untouched parcels off tropical rainforest.
Explore the many secrets the rainforest holds by hiking its forest trails led by our one the most experience wildlife
guides. The guides have extensive knowledge of the both thee natural and
cultural wonders to be seen and
discovered within Ankasa’ ’s deep forest. While on hike, listen carefully for the different songs of birds present.
Your guide will introduce
you to the unique and fascinating world of insect biodiversity. Watch out for an
abundance of
brilliantly colored butterflies defending their “sunn spot” territories. Look closely at the leaf litter
upon the forest floor and you will be delighted to find very large, yet harmless millipede. Take a closer look at the
leaves of a tree. You may find that it has been foldedd up and bounded be weaver ants. Look
again at the
bark of a
tree and you may find a very cleverly camouflaged
moth. Please note: The hike is, at minimum, two
hours in
length; a moderate level of fitness is required. Lightweight, loose clothing, comfortable walking shoes, insect
repellent and bottled water are recommended.
