n Every family has a story. Oscar-nominated
actress-director Sarah
Polley (Take This Waltz, Away from
Her) roots through her family tree to
find her family’s stories, in particular
the ones about her elusive mother
Diane, an actress who passed away
in 1987. Polley interviews several
members of her family to get the truth
about Diane, while also turning the
camera on herself as the interviewer/
director in order to examine how the
filmmaking process shapes the answers
she receives. The result is an intensely
revealing documentary that peels back
family secrets layer by layer—including
the revelation that Polley’s father is
not her own.
vacationed as kids—and end up running
for their lives. The long-awaited
discovery that three ex-Marines are
illegally hunting on the island and
that the women know one of the men,
Henry (Will Bouvier), from high
school. When Henry gets too friendly
with Sarah, she defends herself and
accidentally kills him. Henry’s two
friends then come after the female
death, forcing Abby, Sarah, and Lou
to flee—then fight back.
