n Julian Assange, the founder of
the information-sharing website
Wikileaks, is the subject of the
latest film by prolific Oscar-winning
documentarian Alex Gibney (Taxi to
the Dark Side, Mea Maxima Culpa).
Gibney brings to light the contradiction
that is Assange—a hacker who
aims to distribute confidential government
and corporate documents to
the masses, as well as a megalomaniac
with a secretive streak (and alleged
sexual assaulter). But the film reaches
its emotional highs during its scenes
with the confused Bradley Manning,
the former Army soldier who carried
Wikileaks to the front page and ended
up in solitary confinement, as friendless
and alone as he had ever been.
