Our single/double room residence building for those<br />

aged sixteen and older houses up to 55 residents in 48<br />

rooms and offers each resident a furnished dorm-style<br />

private bedroom, common lounge areas with kitchenettes,<br />

large common kitchen, coin operated laundry facilities,<br />

private computer areas, study rooms, washrooms and<br />

private shower rooms. Within this building one can also<br />

find recreational equipment, wireless internet capability,<br />

vending machines, free telephones for local calls and cable<br />

televisions. Our mature residence building for those aged<br />

twenty-five and older contains 12 dorm-style rooms for<br />

those seeking a quieter living atmosphere. This building<br />

offers residents a private furnished bedroom, shared<br />

kitchen and washroom facilities, coin operated laundry<br />

facilities, wireless internet capability, common living<br />

room with cable television, phones for free local calls<br />

and a study room. Our family or multi-person residences<br />

consist of 32 apartments in two buildings. These<br />

residences vary, each containing two to three bedrooms,<br />

one to two washrooms, private porch or small private<br />

lawn area. Also available to residents in apartments are<br />

common lounge areas with cable television, computers,<br />

free telephones for local calls, coin operated laundry<br />

facilities, wireless internet capability, vending machines<br />

and a shared playroom for children. The primary<br />

occupant must be at least sixteen years of age and<br />

preference is given to applicants with families however<br />

non-families may also apply. In addition, activities are<br />

planned on and off campus for those in all residence<br />

buildings.<br />

Samay Thìa - Harry Allen Lounge<br />

The Samay Thìa First Nation Lounge is a place of<br />

support for all students. Named for the late Grand<br />

Chief Harry Allen, Samay Thìa means “big salmon” in<br />

the Southern Tutchone language. The lounge offers a<br />

comfortable environment for many purposes: visits with<br />

Elders, studying, cultural activities, lunches, meetings and<br />

socializing. Everyone is welcome.<br />

Students are encouraged to read the Safety and Security<br />

on Ayamdigut Campus booklet available at Reception<br />

and Student Services and review any related safety/<br />

security information on the <strong>College</strong> website. Students<br />

must observe safety precautions at all times Any incident<br />

involving a safety hazard or threatening situation must be<br />

reported immediately to the nearest college staff person<br />

and/or <strong>College</strong> Security at 867.668.7243 (pager 676).<br />

The Security Office is located behind the main reception<br />

area. Instructors who supervise practical work areas will<br />

outline detailed safety regulations at the beginning of the<br />

program. Students may not use any equipment or shops<br />

without the specific approval of the instructor concerned.<br />

Fire Regulations<br />

In the event of a fire alarm or evacuation order,<br />

everyone must vacate the building immediately using the<br />

nearest exit. If in a classroom, refer to the posted fire<br />

exit map. The fire alarm has an audible alarm and is also<br />

equipped with strobe lights. If you notice a fire and the<br />

alarm has not been sounded, pull the nearest fire alarm<br />

prior to evacuating the area.<br />

The <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>College</strong> Student Union (YCSU) is ensconced<br />

in legislation via the amended <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>College</strong> Act of<br />

May 2009 and is incorporated under the Societies<br />

Act. All registered Ayamdigut Campus students pay a<br />

Student Union fee which is used to sponsor activities<br />

and social events. The fee is CAN$30/term for full-time<br />

students, CAN$10/term for part-time students. YCSU<br />

is responsible for student funds, organizing student<br />

activities and relating student concerns to the <strong>College</strong><br />

administration. The director of Student Services advises<br />

and consults with YCSU. Student Services staff work<br />

with YCSU throughout the year to organize activities that<br />

promote an active student life on campus, such as pub<br />

nights, films, speakers, sports and barbecues.<br />
