Program Overview<br />
Skills for Employment is a 15-week<br />
credit program designed to assist<br />
students to gain skills needed for<br />
employment and/or further academic<br />
study. Academic skill development in<br />
numeracy and literacy is embedded in<br />
workplace skills.. Students are provided<br />
with the opportunity to enhance their<br />
workplace essential skills through work<br />
placements, volunteer placements<br />
and/or specific projects which will be<br />
offered based on students’ interests and<br />
community needs.<br />
Each 15-week project is designed to<br />
develop a specific set of workplace skills.<br />
Past projects delivered have included<br />
radio broadcasting, culinary skills,<br />
plumbers’ helper and green greenhouse<br />
construction and planting.<br />
This program is available in the<br />
communities upon request.<br />

CAN$250 Activity Fee<br />
Ancillary fees will vary depending on<br />
the focus/scope of the program.<br />
Attendance policy<br />
Regular attendance is necessary to be<br />
successful in Access programs. Please<br />
keep this in mind when committing to<br />
attending the program.<br />
Course dates<br />
Fall Semester<br />
September to December 2012<br />
Winter Semester<br />
January to April 2013<br />
Classes are held from Monday to Friday<br />
from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.<br />
Textbooks and<br />
required materials<br />
Students will require a binder, loose<br />
leaf paper, dividers, pencils and pens.<br />
Some textbooks may be required. A<br />
trades based project may require safety<br />
equipment. A list will be provided at<br />
registration time. Most supplies can be<br />
purchased through the <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
Bookstore.<br />
Intake appointment<br />
Please phone to make an appointment<br />
to meet with an instructor to<br />
further discuss program content and<br />
expectations. Appointments can be<br />
conducted over the phone.<br />

Sponsorship<br />
and tuition payment<br />
Information on sponsorship is available<br />
from a <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>College</strong> counsellor.<br />
Accepted students are expected to have<br />
sponsorship or payment of tuition and<br />
mandatory fees arranged before meeting<br />
with a program advisor to register<br />
for courses. This enables students to<br />
register in their courses without delay<br />
and purchase textbooks and additional<br />
supplies and be prepared for the first<br />
day of classes. Acceptance into the<br />
program does not guarantee a space.<br />
Payment of tuition and mandatory fees<br />
must be made to guarantee you a seat.<br />
Certificate<br />
Students will receive a completion<br />
certificate upon meeting the<br />
requirements in each of the eight<br />
modules.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />
Students must meet with a program<br />
advisor before admission to the<br />
program. Placement testing may be<br />
recommended.<br />
