Program Overview<br />

The Camp Maintenance Manager<br />

program is taught in a field camp<br />

environment. The program combines<br />

the practical and technical skills training<br />

necessary to build and maintain a<br />

field camp required in remote mineral<br />

exploration work sites. Students will<br />

learn how to build, maintain and<br />

demobilize camp infrastructure; as well<br />

as create and maintain a camp safety<br />

plan. Students will have training and<br />

gain certification for the handling and<br />

transport of hazardous materials (TDG<br />

and WHMIS), handling propane (PTI<br />

800 01), ATV use, respect for the land,<br />

bear awareness, helicopter safety and<br />

the appropriate disposal of garbage.<br />

Students will learn administration skills<br />

needed for effective camp management<br />

using the Microsoft Office suite of<br />

computer programs. Students will use<br />

email for correspondence, learn how to<br />

facilitate crew rotations and maintain<br />

effective records.<br />

CMM 003: Camp Maintenance and Mobilization<br />

CMM 004: Communications<br />

CMM 005: Field Placement<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

• must be 19 years of age or older<br />

• must be a <strong>Yukon</strong> resident<br />

• First Nation applicants<br />

encouraged to apply<br />

Duration<br />

Duration of training is 14 days, but<br />

there may be one day either side for<br />

mobilization in and out of camp.<br />

This may be followed by a three-week<br />

work practicum. Companies may use<br />

this work practicum experience as<br />

an opportunity to screen and select<br />

seasonal crews.<br />

Program Overview<br />

The Exploration Field Assistant<br />

program is taught outdoors in a remote<br />

field camp environment. The course<br />

develops students’ field skills such<br />

as GPS, sampling and grid layout.<br />

Safety training covers a variety of<br />

topics including helicopter safety, bear<br />

awareness and wilderness survival. This<br />

course will provide graduates with the<br />

practical skills required to observe,<br />

measure and record information.<br />

Students will learn how to process and<br />

safely handle core and core boxes as well<br />

as the correct procedures for handling<br />

samples. Students learn Standard First<br />

Aid and will receive a PAL certification<br />

after successful completion of the<br />

program.<br />
