Program Overview<br />
The Practical Nurse program provides<br />
students with the education to enter a<br />
highly respected and challenging career<br />
in health care. If you have a desire<br />
to work in a dynamic environment,<br />
providing high quality nursing care in<br />
hospitals, community care facilities<br />
and other health-related institutions,<br />
then consider a professional career<br />
in Practical Nursing. Practical nurses<br />
assist clients with activities of daily<br />
living; perform assessments; provide<br />
prescribed treatments; and create safe,<br />
comfortable environments. Practical<br />
nurses collaborate with other members<br />
of the health care team to help clients<br />
meet their physical, emotional and<br />
psychological needs.<br />
Admission Requirements<br />
• grade 12 graduation with English<br />
12 (min. 60%) and Biology<br />
12 (min. 60%) or ANPH 150<br />
(min. 60%) available on-line at<br />
Bow Valley <strong>College</strong> and Math<br />
11 (Applications, Principles,<br />
Foundations, or Pre-Calculus)<br />
• applicants may be ranked based<br />
on the average of grades in the 3<br />
required courses<br />
Other Requirements<br />
• current Standard First Aid/CPR<br />
HCP<br />
• current immunization<br />
• acceptable criminal records check<br />
Transferability<br />
Graduates of this program may be<br />
accepted into Athabasca University’s<br />
Post LPN Bachelor of Nursing<br />

and will be prepared to write the<br />
Canadian Practical Nurse Registration<br />
Examinations (CPNRE) and to apply for<br />
licensure in the <strong>Yukon</strong>.<br />
