Program Overview<br />

The General Studies programs integrate<br />

general knowledge and intellectual<br />

skills with specific occupational or<br />

professional skills. They are designed<br />

for students who do not plan on<br />

pursuing a university degree and/<br />

or wish to develop an individualized<br />

program from a variety of<br />

programming areas within the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Students who wish to complete a<br />

university degree at a later time are<br />

encouraged either to limit their choices<br />

in the General Studies programs to<br />

courses in the School of Liberal Arts<br />

and School of Science or to pursue a<br />

Liberal Arts certificate or diploma.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

• grade 12 graduation with<br />

English 12; OR<br />

• Mature Student Status with<br />

acceptable scores on <strong>College</strong><br />

Assessments, the GED® test or<br />

the Language Proficiency Index<br />

(LPI) test<br />

Other Requirements<br />

• complete at least 50% of the work<br />

at <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

• maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0<br />

(C average)<br />

Transferability<br />

Liberal Arts courses and programs are<br />

transferable to most universities and<br />

colleges in Canada and Alaska, either<br />

by program or on a course-by-course<br />

basis.<br />

NOTE: Certificate students may take up to six<br />

credits and diploma students up to 12 credits<br />

from outside the School of Liberal Arts and<br />

School of Science; however, such coursework<br />

may not be transferable to programs at other<br />

post-secondary institutions.<br />

NOTE: Excepting Multimedia Communication<br />

and Visual Arts, all School of Liberal Arts<br />

programs require completion of ENGL 100.<br />

Students are encouraged to take ENGL 100 in<br />

their first term of study. Students can enrol in<br />

ENGL 100 if they have ONE of the following:<br />

• English 12 (min. 80%); OR<br />

• LPI test (min. Level 4 with 24/40 on SS,<br />

EU and RC); OR<br />

• ENGL 090: Bridging English for University<br />

(min. B)<br />
