Fortunately, it is these complications that may actually<br />

help in waiting out a cycle. Since these circumstances often<br />

take time to work out, a partner can use this to his or her<br />

advantage.<br />

One way is to communicate these complications to the<br />

sufferer, and suggest waiting things out before commencing<br />

such burdensome tasks. It may be appropriate to offer to go<br />

and stay <strong>with</strong> friends or family to give the sufferer some<br />

space. This helps in providing more immediate relief, thus<br />

enabling the potential for ending a cycle.<br />

This can require a few days or more, and means to stay<br />

away. Pack enough so you will not need to return to the<br />

home for a while. If you do need to visit the home, try to do<br />

it when the sufferer is not there. After a while, you may be<br />

able to enter discussion about working things out. There is<br />

the possibility that, before long, the sufferer will request for<br />

you to come back.<br />

Stay patient and respectful, as this is for giving your partner<br />

time to calm down. Don't do anything to create more<br />

anxiety.<br />

It may help to suggest marriage or couples counseling.<br />

The process of separating when living together is complicated,<br />

and this suggestion may be accepted by the sufferer.<br />

Although you are aware that the problem is not in the relationship,<br />

this can help to buy time. Also, a counselor may<br />

help in getting your partner to accept that these events occur<br />

due to circumstances of his or her own creation. If your<br />

partner is unaware of his or her OCD behaviors, this would<br />

be significantly helpful.<br />
