However difficult, don't let your partner's <strong>ROCD</strong> dictate<br />

your feelings. By staying calm and controlling your reactions,<br />

you will have a better chance of making it through<br />

the cycle <strong>with</strong> your relationship still intact.<br />

Leave it in the past<br />

If you have already experienced one or more breakups<br />

due to <strong>ROCD</strong>, staying calm may be more difficult. Every<br />

time your partner has broken up <strong>with</strong> you as a result of<br />

<strong>ROCD</strong>, you may have developed more intolerance and distrust.<br />

The number of times this has occurred will impact the<br />

strength of these feelings.<br />

In this case, you will have to work harder to keep calm.<br />

You may be “tired” of this, but bear in mind that your partner<br />

does not see the pattern as you do. A person <strong>with</strong><br />

<strong>ROCD</strong> may recognize that he or she has done this before,<br />

but does not logically consider that in previous cases the<br />

process was uncalled for. All he or she knows is how they<br />

feel now.<br />

Don't carry emotions from previous experiences into a<br />

current cycle. Let go of what cannot change or be taken<br />

back, and only deal <strong>with</strong> the present issue. Don't let that<br />

which you can't control upset you. This will help you emotionally,<br />

by preventing responses which would make things<br />

worse.<br />

From your experience, you are likely aware that your<br />

partner is not trying to hurt or upset you, and that he or she<br />
