keyed to the <strong>com</strong>pressor crankshaft,<br />

and which enters the accessory gear<br />

case where it is driven by the camshaft<br />

gear. The fuel pump is flange<br />

mounted to the front of the air <strong>com</strong>pressor<br />

and must be removed before<br />

the air <strong>com</strong>pressor can be removed.<br />

REMOVAL<br />

On H-Series trucks, unlock the tilt<br />

cab. On H- and N-Series trucks, the<br />

air intake system <strong>com</strong>ponents have<br />

to be removed to obtain access for<br />

<strong>com</strong>pressor removal.<br />

Air Intake Lines-H- and<br />

N-Series <strong>Truck</strong>s Only<br />

1. Disconnect the air intake duct<br />

from the air cross-over manifold<br />

(Fig. 11).<br />

2. Loosen the hose clamps on the<br />

cross-over manifold connection hose.<br />

3. Loosen the <strong>com</strong>pressor air intake<br />

hose at the air cross-over manifold<br />

and at the <strong>com</strong>pressor.<br />

4. Remove the retaining bolts and<br />

the right hand air cross-over manifold<br />

from the intake manifold.<br />

Fuel Pump and Air Compressor—<br />

F-, H-, T-, and N-Series <strong>Truck</strong>s<br />

1. Disconnect the throttle linkage<br />

and lines from the fuel pump, and<br />

remove the fuel pump from the front<br />

of the <strong>com</strong>pressor as described in<br />

Group 10.<br />

2. Drain the cooling system and<br />

exhaust the air reservoirs.<br />

3. Disconnect the air outlet line<br />

from the <strong>com</strong>pressor.<br />

4. On F- and T-Series trucks,<br />

loosen the <strong>com</strong>pressor air intake hose<br />

clamps at the main intake duct and<br />

at the <strong>com</strong>pressor.<br />

5. On F-, T- and N-Series trucks,<br />

remove the floor pan cover at the<br />

gear shift lever to obtain access to the<br />

line connections and the rear of the<br />

<strong>com</strong>pressor.<br />

On H-Series trucks, this access is<br />

obtained by tilting the cab at the beginning<br />

of the removal procedure.<br />

6. Disconnect all air lines at the<br />

governor.<br />

7. Disconnect the water lines at<br />

the air <strong>com</strong>pressor, the cylinder<br />

block, and at the water crossover<br />

connection.<br />

8. Unclamp any water or air lines<br />

as necessary to provide clearance for<br />

<strong>com</strong>pressor removal.<br />

9. On F-, T- and N-Series trucks,<br />

remove the water crossover pipe from<br />

the rear of the cylinder heads in order<br />

to gain access to the accessory drive<br />

rear support plate. On H-Series<br />

trucks, it is not necessary to remove<br />

the crossover pipe because the crossover<br />

pipe goes over the top of the<br />

accessory gear case as shown in Fig.<br />

gear case. Remove the rear<br />

support plate from the rear side of<br />

the gear case (Fig. 12), and remove<br />

the <strong>com</strong>pressor from the front side<br />

of the gear case.<br />
