The Biological Discussion Club<br />
9[’HE Biological Discussion Club has had a singularly successful and<br />
interesting year. A number <strong>of</strong> papers have been read, dealing with<br />
summer research <strong>of</strong> faculty and undergraduate members.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor G. J. Spencer addressed the opening meeting, speaking on<br />
Grasshopper Control Investigators in the Chilcotin.” The second meet<br />
ing coincided with a lecture on Sterilization <strong>of</strong> the Criminal and Feeble<br />
Minded,” given at the Vancouver Institute. The regular meeting <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Club was postponed and members attended the Institute meeting. Ian<br />
McTaggart-Cowan gave the next paper, entitled A Naturalist in the<br />
Canadian Rockies,” and exhibited specimens <strong>of</strong> animals collected during<br />
the summer. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor J. Davidson addressed an interested audience on<br />
The Species Concept, Echoes <strong>of</strong> the Botanical and Horticultural Con<br />
gress,” showing slides <strong>of</strong> beauty spots visited on a trip to thet0ld<br />
Country.”<br />
The following papers have been arranged for the Spring Term: Mr.<br />
Hugh Leech,t’Some Summer Experiments;” Ian McTaggart-Cowan,<br />
‘Lantern Slides <strong>of</strong> Jasper and Banff National Parks;” Herbert Glover,<br />
‘The Satin Moth in <strong>British</strong> <strong>Columbia</strong>;” Miss Mollie Holliday, “Some<br />
Structures <strong>of</strong> Plants in Relation to Their Environment;” Alfred Elliot,<br />
Aenemia.”<br />

The G. M. Dawson Discussion Club<br />
‘l[’HE Geological Discussion Club continued this session with its pro<br />
JL gramme <strong>of</strong> meetings featuring outside as well as student speakers.<br />
The tendency this year is to have speakers on widely varying sub<br />
jects, to make the meetings different from class-room lectures.<br />
The honorary members have, as in the past, <strong>of</strong>fered their homes<br />
for the club meetings.<br />
The executive for the 1930-3 1 session was: Honorary President,<br />
Dr. T. C. Phemister; President, Ed. Loritt; Secretary-Treasurer, Vladimir<br />
Okulitch.<br />
