JAMES WALTER SMITH<br />
Jim, a native <strong>of</strong> New Denver, B. C., atatted hia<br />
Varaity career with Science ‘30, but after a year<br />
decided to take time out. He joined us four years<br />
ago and has been an active member <strong>of</strong> our class ever<br />
since, taking a lively interese in interclass soccer and<br />
basketball, and making firsts in his chosen field <strong>of</strong><br />
Electrical Engineering. He is a great radio hound<br />
and is said to study a lot better with earphones on.<br />
He will start his career with the C.G.E. next sum<br />
mer.<br />
ROBERT HAMILTON SMITH<br />
A hero, known to everybody on the campus as<br />
“Sandy,” hails from Victoria as a graduate <strong>of</strong> Vic<br />
toria College. Since coming to Varsity Sandy has<br />
taken a very active part in athletics. Big-Four<br />
Csnadian Rugby for four years (captain last year),<br />
ice hockey two years, vice-president Big Block Club,<br />
Awards Committee and class executives have not<br />
prevented him from accomplishing a double course.<br />
Sandy is graduating in Mining this year.<br />
LORNE FOSTER SWANNELL<br />
After two years at Victoria College, Lurne took<br />
up the battle with the Engineers <strong>of</strong> ‘31, choosing<br />
Forestry in his final years. He will graduate with a<br />
double degree, having paused to collect a B.A. in<br />
1930. During his first year, he played Canadian<br />
rugby. Since then he has been a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Science ‘31 relay team and <strong>of</strong> the Musical Society.<br />
He is an active member <strong>of</strong> the Forest Club and vicepresident<br />
<strong>of</strong> the F.T.C. student section.<br />
STUART JOHN TERHUNE<br />
Stew conies from Rosslsnd, B.C., and is natur<br />
ally interested in mining. He started with Science<br />
‘28 and was president <strong>of</strong> his class in his second year.<br />
Stew started in Civil Engineering but then decided<br />
he liked Mining better and changed his course. He<br />
was president <strong>of</strong> the Science Men’s Undergraduate<br />
Society in 1928; on the Science ‘28 Relay team, and<br />
is now vice-president <strong>of</strong> Science ‘31. For about<br />
eight summers Stew worked for the Consolidated<br />
Mining Company, doing exploration work for the<br />
last two summers.<br />
MELVIN ARTHUR THOMAS<br />
“Micky” is a rare chap, who consistently makes<br />
first-class honours and at the same time manages to<br />
keep a normal size <strong>of</strong> hat band. For the past four<br />
years he has been an outstanding figure in the organi<br />
zation <strong>of</strong> the various <strong>of</strong>ficial Science functions, and<br />
also <strong>of</strong> those little parties which, though un<strong>of</strong>ficial,<br />
are none the less pleasant. At the present time he<br />
is the popular president <strong>of</strong> Science ‘31 and chairman<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Student Branch <strong>of</strong> the A.T.E.E.<br />
