Associate in Applied Science — AAS 3332<br />

This degree program includes general education coursework as<br />
well as an emphasis of skills in American Sign Language (ASL)<br />
and spoken English. In addition, knowledge of Deaf culture,<br />
intercultural communication, ethics, laws, and professional<br />
behavior for interpreters is provided. Both theoretical and<br />
practical training prepares students for entrance into the field of<br />
interpreting, serving both deaf and hearing consumers in a<br />
variety of settings.<br />
Program Notes: Admission into the Interpreter Preparation<br />
Program is available to a limited number of applicants.<br />
Students accepted into the program begin the following fall<br />
semester. See an academic advisor for application<br />
requirements and procedures.<br />
Admission Criteria: Students must have a high school<br />
diploma, or GED, or equivalent. Students must complete<br />
program prerequisites and be accepted into the interpreting<br />
program. Application must be received by May 1 to be<br />
considered for acceptance into the interpreting program.<br />
