The Southwest Studies Program applies a broad,<br />

interdisciplinary approach to the study of the peoples and<br />

places of the American Southwest. Three certificates in<br />

American Indian Studies, Chicano-Chicana Studies, and<br />

Southwest Studies are available. Certificates may be attained<br />

independently of any degree program, but students may also<br />

apply course credits toward a degree.<br />

The American Indian Studies Certificate explores the unique<br />

experiences of the American Indian people living in the<br />

Southwest and provides students the opportunity to study the<br />

cultures, values, histories, and contemporary lives of the<br />

indigenous people of North America. The Certificate includes<br />

courses that investigate their language, literature, arts,<br />

philosophy, religions, and politics.<br />
